Hello, and welcome in.
My name is Roshan, but I go by Robin to all but my closest friends. I am a student at Stanford University focusing on mathematics (especially algebra, combinatorics, and complexity theory), political theory (especially the politics of epistemology and formal theory), and art (film photography). I will be graduating in Spring 2024 with a BS in Mathematics, a BA in Political Science, a minor in Art Practice, and an MS in Computer Science.
My mathematical research engages with a wide range of subjects, including topology, combinatorics, representation theory and group theory. Outside of pure math, I study social choice theory in political science and complexity theory in computer science.
Broadly, my goal is to develop connections – what I call portals – between disparate fields, both between different types of math and between math and other fields (including art!). I am also a writer and speaker on math education, and am passionate about achieving epistemic justice for marginalized groups in math. My email is truax [at] stanford [dot] edu.
Who am I?
What am I up to?
Last summer, I studied combinatorial properties of certain hyperplane arrangements at the Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics (ICERM). Afterwards, I returned to Stanford for my third year, where I am continuing my schoolwork, research, and art.
What do I enjoy?
I have lived all over the United States, but I consider my “hometown” to be Seattle, where I lived the longest. I love reading, particularly where Asian-American literature meets science fiction and magical realism (see Ted Chiang or Ken Liu), as well as modernist and queer literature. I enjoy art, particularly writing, photography, knitting, and woodworking. I also enjoy playing games, both tabletop games and video games (most recently Celeste). My favorite genres of music are R&B (ex. Emawk or grentperez), alternative (ex. Mitski, Hozier, Arctic Monkeys, or TV Girl).
